I'm only swimming the 1500 in the morning but I had to pack 2 pairs of goggles, 3 swim
suits, one big beach towel (gay games), shorts, t-shirt, something for the feet and one of those swim towel. That doesn't include clothes to change into and snack and beverages.
Psych Sheets came out this morning moving my Wii obsession to the back burner as I begin to worry about swimming this weekend.
First off we have on Friday the 1500 M Freestyle (Women, Men) which i entered a time of 45:00.00. Forty five minutes you ask? Well I sandbagged my entry so I can get in right at the start of the meet at 10am and then be done to head back to the office for at least a half day of work. My actual SCM time for the 1500 is 18:45.69.
Then on Saturday I am swimming the Men's 200 M Freestyle with a seed time of 02:12.23, the Men's 50 M Butterfly with a seed time of 00:35.00 and the Men's 200 M Butterfly with a seed time of 02:29.98.
On Sunday I am swimming the Men's 400 M Freestyle with a seed time of 04:40.71, the Men's 100 M Freestyle with a seed time of 01:00.96 and then the Men's 50 M Backstroke with a seed time of 00:33.28.
For the 1500 five swimmers in my age group are listed:
M35-39 1 xxxx 18:34.54 2 xxxx 19:28.00 3 xxxx 22:30.00 4 Me 45:00.00 5 xxxx NT
For the 200 Freestyle eighteen swimmers are listed:
Last night after work I had to head to Plummer Park in West Hollywood to reserve a room for a swim board meeting so I headed to the Best Buy and Target in my quest for a Wii. First I stopped at Best Buy as the website said they had them in stock. As I walk in I see tons of various game consoles, mostly xbox360’s, pilled up everywhere. I then approach a group of Best Buy employees and asked them if they had any Wii’s. And of course they didn’t. I mentioned to the guy that the website said they had them in stock and he said that was wrong and people have been calling them all day. I asked them if they did receive them are the putting them out on the floor or holding them for Sunday’s circular? The Best Buy employee stated that they put them out since the Wii won’t be in this weekends circular but if it was in a circular they are forced to hold them till the sale date.
Then a Target more of the same. Nothing. But the employee told me to call everyday as they put them out as they get them. In fact on Wednesday they received 6 PS3’s and sold them in 15 minutes. Time to call them now...
To taper or not to taper, that is the question. Once again out coach had us separate between tapering and non-tapering. Once again most of the fast swimmers decided not to taper except me. What can I say, I like my rest! Also I’m swimming the 1500 on Friday so I want to feel good and ready by then. But then I started to notice that some people who are faster than me in workout are not much faster if at than me at meets. One person in particular who kicks my butt every time in workout I noticed at the Gay Games were we both did our best times in both the 400 and 1500 Free. In the 400 I was 10 seconds faster while in the 1500 the person was 20 seconds a head of me. So why does this person beat me by 1/2 a lap in a 200 during workout and more during longer distance?
After swimming in the rain on Monday today was even worse with sunny skies but freezing temps. It was so cold that when waiting in between sets my ears got so cold they stung when I got back under the water.
Okay so I sorta forgot the whole workout and to be honest wasn’t paying much attention to intervals. I was just swimming and trying to stay warm. I think we did a set of 6 75’s with kicking and swimming mixed in with stroke and free. Then we did a set of 100 / 50 / 25 /25 mixed of stroke and free. Then eight 25’s. We even got out a bit early. Wahoo! Now I just need to relax today and tomorrow and not think about Friday. Relax!
I stopped by Toys R Us here in Los Angeles on La Cienega right at opening 9am PST today 11/29. As they opened the doors two late20's early30's guy ran towards the electronic department making my heart race thinking that they knew something I didn't know...that TRU had them. As they turned past the electronic dept my heart sunk.
Once at the electronic dept. I asked the associate if they had Wii and she said no. I then asked her "be honest now when you get the wii's are you putting them on the floor or holding them to Sunday?" she asked me why would they do that to which I replied "I've read some stores are" to which she replied "I've yet to even see a Wii here" Damn! Damn! Damn!
I'll be at TRU today around noon and then at 7pm. Oh and those guys running into the store went to the action figure aisle. Go figure.
I haven't gone to the extreme of camping out, yet, but I want my Wii! The Sunday it went on sale I stopped by the local Toys R Us and Circuit City and of course didn't get one.
Then the Wednesday before Tday I stopped again to no avail. Now after reading various websites I stopped at those two stores tonight on my way home from work but still no Wii. I went on Walmart's website after reading they had them online in a bundle. When I started my order they had it in stock but by the time it was processed they had sold out. But that was a good thing since the bundle was mucho bucks! I make this pledge to myself, every day at lunch and on the way home I'm going to hit the Toys R Us and Circuit City to I get my Wii!
According to various sites I've read some Targets got some today as well as other retailers and people got to buy them. At the same time some retailers hold them in back to the Sunday circular hits. That is cuz' some states require minimum stock levels of products advertised. Damn! The next delivery to retailers is this Friday. But I'm going to keep going to the stores and befriend the workers in the hopes that I'll land one soon! Or at the very least I get to talk to the cutie at Circuit City everyday!
On Friday I went to Disney World. I actually really like going on amusement
park rides and I can somewhat deal with crowds. Even though I do like going to amusement parks I don’t go that often as the other half isn’t a fan of them. I’ve lived in LA since 1999 and have only been to Disneyland once in 2001 and Universal in 2006. The other month someone gave me free tickets to Universal’s Halloween thing so we went. I loved it.
At Disney World on Friday we got there around noon and went right to Magic Kingdom. Well not exactly right to. First we parked in the Sneezy 94 section of the Transportation Centers parking lot taking a tram to the gate. Then stood in line to get on the Monorail to the park. Once in the park it was time for a stroll down Main Street. Then on to Adventure Land to stand in line for the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Than a fast food hamburger lunch. After that we took the Jungle Cruise which lasted 20 minutes. My last visit to Disney Land was in April of 2005 so there were no new rides to stand in line for. The main point of the trip was to see the holiday display.
We took the ferryboat back to the transportation center than on the Disney bus to the Disney MGM Park to check out the lights. I bought a disposable Kodak camera for 19.95 a the gate to take pictures since I forgot my digital camera back in California. I took lots of pictures of the lights at night and
when I picked up my pictures yesterday at Walgreens they all were very grainy. Oh and on the photo disc every photo is upside down. I know I can rotate it but come on folks how stupid are they at the photo desk. So I’m not going to post any of mine online what you see here are pictures pulled of Flickr.
Since it was still daylight we had some time before heading over to the lights so I got in line for the Tower of Terror. I love this ride. When I went to Disney World in 1999 an afternoon shower hit the park and everyone left leaving me to ride the Tower of Terror over and over and over to a total of 6 times in one day. When I got out this time it was dark enough to head over to the light display. Mind you I figured it was just going to be a few lights here and there. As we followed the map we saw a few lights poking out between the rides. Okay so maybe it won’t totally suck I thought to myself. As we made the turn to the New York City street my jaw dropped as the entire street was covered with lights from sidewalk to the ceilings.
It was amazing. According to the Disney website:
Stroll down New York Street at Disney-MGM Studios as the streetlights fade and snowflakes begin to fall. Suddenly you're dazzled by millions of lights, dancing in synchronized splendor to a symphony for the senses with twirling carousels, heavenly angels — even Santa and his reindeer — amidst electrifying holiday music! Newly enhanced for this season, this enchanting spectacle is a Walt Disney World® tradition that makes holiday dreams come true!
As we walked down the street I was amazed. Then at the very end an announcement came on that the show was about to begin. What show? All the lights went off and the lights began to dance to a Christmas Carol. Now I don’t know the name of this Christian song but I do know a parody version, BK Holiday. The whole time all I could do is hum along to the BK Holiday version as I didn’t know the real lyrics. BK Holiday is a big hit in my office and I still laugh every time I watch it.
After viewing the lights it was back on the bus to the transportation center then on the Monorail back to the Magic Kingdom. After grabbing a quick fast food dinner it was time for two more rides. First off was some 3d Mickey Mouse show. Really cute for kids and then one last ride before we left. Of course it was, It’s A Small World.
I had a blast even though I didn’t get on all the rides I wanted. Now I really want to head down to DisneyLand to go on all the rides again.
This morning a fellow swimmer asked me if the Psych Sheets were available yet for this weekends Regionals. I had to answer him that I didn’t know because it totally slipped my mind. So I went to the website to look and read:
Psych Sheets will be provided in mid-November, after the early registration period has ended. Please check back here then.
So all that means is now I’m going to keep going back to the website until they are posted. Then once posted I’ll start to obsesse even more about swimming this weekend. Leaving me nervous and sick to my stomach with butterflies. Why do I still get nervous? Who cares, isn’t this just suppose to be an easy way for me not to turn into a blimp?
After too much food and wine last night I woke up at 5:10 and started to get my stuff ready for swim. As I went outside to get the morning newspaper I noticed the ground was wet but it wasn’t raining. Once on the way the rain started to come down. More and more as I got closer to our outdoor pool.
Not only is the West Hollywood pool an outdoor pool the genius who designed the locker room decided that it didn’t need a roof. The locker room is shielded by a chain link fence like roof. So when it rains the locker room is all wet. This past summer they decided to come up with a remedy to this. The city installed two awnings in the locker room. Of course since no one expected rain no one opened the awnings yesterday so the locker room floor was soaked. The rain continued all the way through swim practice but we continued to swim as the rain wasn’t that hard just steady.
With regionals this weekend the coach is letting us taper. Not everyone wanted to taper. The uber fast 20somethings don’t want to taper so the two of them had a lane and I had my own taper fast lane.
500 warmup mixed
3x200’s 100 drill / 100 swim, 25 swim / 100 drill / 25 swim, 100 swim / 100 drill. I did one butterfly, one back and one free.
9x100’s 3 on 1:25 freestyle descend, 3 on 1:35 backstroke and then 3 on 1:45. I did the first one 75 butterfly / 25 free and the next two 50 butterfly / 50 backstroke.
12x50’s 4 on a minute butterfly. 4 on on a minute backstroke and 4 freestyle on 50 seconds.
Then we practiced doing starts off the blocks.
Well that is it. One more practice on Wednesday then swimming the 1500 at Regionals on Friday. Wahoo!
