After having what I thought was a great workout yesterday afternoon I figured this mornings workout would not be so great. And for the most part I was right until the very last 100 when I came back from the brink.
Warm up seemed to take an eternity only doing a 500. Then after announcements we moved on to a quick kick set of four 50's. I hate kicking so doing a few 50's is enough for me. Moving on with the warm up we did five 100's on 1:25. Which ain't a bad interval if it was all swim and freestyle but these were 50 drill rest 5 seconds and then 50 swim alternating free and stroke. Some of the set was very touch and go for me.
Our next set wasn't much easier.
3x100 1:30 stroke / free / stroke
4x50 on 50.
We did this twice through. The first round I did it all backstroke and felt like crap. I like swimming backstroke but because I don't do the stroke correctly I end up getting shoulder pain on my right side. Anything more than a 100 kills me. The second round I did IM for the 200, IM minus the breaststroke for the 100 and the 25's.
Our final set is when I came back to life. We did five 100 freestyles on 1:30. The coach had us make sure we negative split each 100 and descending them. My times were 1:21, 1:18, 1:14, 1:11 and then 1:01. I sprang to life on the last one. In the lane next to me I paced off one of the super fast guys. He started at 1:09 and descended to a 1:01 also. We pretty much hit the wall at the same time. The first one I just took it easy. Maybe too easy since I rallied so well at the end.
