1. FOUR! Reuters reports that Michael Phelps will tee off in Chinese ProAm Event. According to Reuters "Phelps will be given tips at the October 28-31 Pro-Am tournament by Hank Haney, former coach of Tiger Woods, when the American returns to the country where he grabbed eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympics." Insert Tiger Woods / Michael Phelps / Bimbo Joke Here.
2. Swimming World reports on "FINIS Inc. Launches the Turnmaster Pro an Individual Lane
Bulkhead." Basically it's a portable bulkhead that one can use for practice turns. Swimming Luddites around the world start a petition to ban flip turns.
3. The Swimmers Circle looks at "7 Biggest Mistakes Swimmers Make Before a Championship Meet." I just would like to add in #8 by saying vodka and the 200 butterfly don't mix.
4. Gold Medal Mel looks at "The History Behind Prince Albert's Engagement to an Olympic Swimmer."
5. The Swim Network talks about kicking in an article entitled "Grab Your Kickboard." Anyone who knows me knows that I refer to kick sets as pee break sets. It's not that I don't like kicking I just am still learning how to kick and swim at the same time. Once I've mastered that I'll attempt to do kick sets.
6. Yesterday everyone in Koreatown was in red and people were screaming and honking horns after Korea's advancement to the final 16. Today as I was cycling to work I passed a bar exactly at 9am when the USA made it to the final 16 and everyone was cheering USA! USA!. Mike Gustafson over at Swim Network also heard those cheers of USA and reflects on swimming's big year 2008 in "Swimming was mainstream in 2008, as the World Cup is now."
