As I do I used my Nike+ Sportband when I ran the Walt Disney World Marathon. Since I calibrated it a month or so ago it seemed to be accurately recording my miles/pacing. But for the marathon it recorded a run of only 25.67 miles which isn't a big deal. While running I'd look at my Sportband which I had set on to view my pace and all I could see were flashing dash marks meaning it wasn't communicating with the sensor. I remembered once being told that this happens at events due to being around other type of devices that create interference. So meh, whatever. While the miles were close enough so were my pace results as Nike+ gave me a 12.41 mile pace while my official time gave me a 12.51 pace. Both of which were way above my goal of staying below a 12 min pace. Grrr... I did have a streak going of staying in around 10.38 but my first half of the marathon was way too slow to make up the difference. I blame myself for putting myself in a slower pace corral from the beginning. Next year...
Here are my pace via Nike+
10.04 / 10.36 / 13.04 / 11.22 / 47.27 now this must be when it was flashing dashes also maybe a pee break but it wasn't that much time or was it? / 17.44 / 10.39 / 22.44 i have no idea what happened around here, maybe another pee in the bushes break / 11.19 / 12.16 / 11.12 / 13.13 / 10.38 / 11.17 / 10.8 / 10.38 / 10.38 / 10.38 / 9.20 / 10.37 / 14.26 / 11.58 / 11.14 / 1:35.48 huh?
Next year when I start my training I'll need to look back at this and figure out a better or just a plan to beat those times. I set numerous bench marks or goals for me for my finishing time. One was to beat my LA Marathon time which I did. My second was to beat 5:30 which I didn't. A third was to beat 5:00 which I also didn't. Then I wanted to beat Ada's time from Season 10 of The Biggest Loser of 4:38.46 which I didn't. So I was able to beat one goal and the always standing goal of just finishing. On the bright side I did beat Patrick's Season 10 time of 5:45 and Frado's time of 5:51. At least that is something.
One more thing and it's about the Nike+ Sportband. With a new NIKE+ GPS Sportwatch coming out in April I'm debating on upgrading or switching to one of the Garmin watches. The one thing I hope I never do but can't promise is that if I get a Garmin I won't be the runner with his iPod on while his Garmin is beeping like crazy for mile after mile driivng other runners crazy. I guess some Garmins have a feature to beep to the runner when they are off pace. And boy did I hear a lot of beeping on Sunday. Mile after mile of that little annoying beep! I swear I have it in my head now! I have to around April when the new Nike+ device comes out which you can sign up to be alerted when it comes out for preorder on nike.com, which i've done just in case I stay with Nike+.
