USMS Allows Techsuits in Short Course Yards Competition Through May 31, 2010
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
United States Masters Swimming voted on Tuesday to allow full-body high-tech suits through June 1 for short course yards competitions, but has ruled that all races in short course meters and long course meters must conform to the new FINA regulations immediately. So for USMS SCY Meets you still can wear your speedsuits but if you swim any SCM or LCM meets you cannot wear the suits previously approved by FINA. To sum it up if you are a USMS you have a few more swim meets left in your speedsuits. Hope no one tossed out any techsuits in the New Year! The new ruling follows the same guidelines as other swimming federations, except that Masters swimmers will be allowed to race in high-tech suits through the remainder of the short course yards season, which runs through May 31.
The United States is the only country in the world to officially recognize swims in short course yards. USMS will hold its annual short course yards championships May 20-23 in Atlanta. - swimming world magazine
