Monday, November 07, 2011
Lane 1 - The Sun posts "Blue blob is new Olympics poster. A SWIRLING blob of blue paint is one of 12 bizarre new posters designed to promote the London 2012 Olympics. The abstract piece, entitled "Swimming", is by British artist Howard Hodgkin — who claims you can see the outline of a swimmer if you look closely into the colour."
Lane 2 - Sports Illustrated has "Garrett Weber-gale in IT'S ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUE. The two-time Olympic gold medal freestyler trains just as hard in three-star kitchens as in the Longhorns' pool. Swim practice is over this Saturday morning in Austin, and Garrett Weber-Gale has perhaps an hour to hunt down fresh calories before his body stages an insurrection. But he's doing something else—moving to an adjacent pool for more work—and there's a story behind that choice."
Lane 3 - The SC Times has "Olympian to train local swimmers. HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinics is sponsoring a swim clinic at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA for swimmers and coaches to meet and train with gold medalist Peter Vanderkaay."
Lane 4 - TodayOnline posts "Le Clos wants to emulate greats Phelps and Thorpe. Future is bright for the young swimmer who has won 16 gold medals after five legs of the series. The 1.85m tall, 78kg Le Clos, who hails from the Kwa-Zulu-Natal province and is of French ancestry, is already a growing name in his native South Africa, despite swimming not being one of the country's more popular sports compared to football, rugby, cricket and golf."
Lane 5 - BBC reports "Alva swimming pool sold by council for £1. A swimming pool condemned by a local authority's budget cuts will be sold to a campaign group for £1 instead. It will be sold to Ochil Leisure Enterprises (OLE) who will also receive up to £100,000 from the council to run it for the community."
Lane 6 - StuffNZ has "The importance of learning how to swim. My two-year old Little Miss adores the water. She takes after her dad in that department, so she has lots of support and encouragement from him. It's a great chance for daddy-daughter bonding and for them to have fun together. And as we live in a country surrounded by water and filled with rivers and lakes, I expect most of our future family holidays will revolve around camping at the beach or river, with time spent swimming, fishing and just hanging out.toddler swimming."
Lane 7 - ESPN posts "Thorpe considers Britain for 2012 warmup. Olympic legend Ian Thorpe could be set to compete in a warm-up event for London 2012 in Britain next year, as he searches for competitive practice after his comeback got off to an unspectacular start. Australia head coach Leigh Nugent subsequently confirmed that Thorpe's team feel he needs at least four long-course events to get up to speed before the Australian trials in March - and one of those could take place in Britain, although not at the 2012 Aquatic Centre."
Lane 8 - Sac Bee has "Man mowing lawn drowns in swimming pool. A Southern California man mowing his lawn fell into his backyard swimming pool with the mower and drowned. There are no details about the type of lawnmower."
