Sunday's Swim Report - Are You Ready To Race?

Lane 1 - Athens Banner-Herald posts "Out of the locker: Gay athletes at UGA mostly silent, but support grows.  Shannon Vreeland, who won an Olympic gold medal in the 800 freestyle relay, said the swimming community has been receptive to those who are gay, including at Georgia and other schools, such as Texas A&M, where men’s swimmer Amini Fonua told the The Battalion, a student newspaper, he is gay.  “We’ve had plenty of gay teammates,” Vreeland said. “We have ones right now that are and it doesn’t really affect anybody. It doesn’t change their perception of anything. I think the Jason Collins thing was great. ... I know that people are a little more hesitant to come out on the men’s team and I think things like this really kind of give people that might be nervous about that, it might give them the courage to (come out).”

Lane 5 - Tahoe Daily Tribune posts "Celebrity Golf tees off Tuesday.  Michael Phelps, an 18-time gold medal Olympic swimmer, will make his ACC debut. Technically, Phelps is a beginner golfer, but after recent instruction from Hank Haney, Tiger Woods’ swing coach, it’s hard to guess what he’ll be bringing to the links.  “Michael is incredibly competitive. He’s the greatest Olympian ever,” Haney said during a June press conference. “I’ve seen him in competition, even just having a friendly bet with some friends, and he can really turn it up.”

Lane 8 - North Jersey posts "Men's swimsuits go from one extreme to the other.  Everybody into the pool!  Wearing...what?  I haven't owned a "real" swimsuit in 15 years. Maybe more.  I can't even remember the last time I bought one. Whenever it was, though, the suit I bought was most likely a plain, black Speedo.  This is a style I wore when I was in my early 20s. I don't believe we called them Speedos back then. But, whatever they were, they looked good on me."
