Monday's Swim Report - #LA24 & Other Swim Bits

Lane 1 - LA Daily News posts "How would a 2024 Olympics in L.A. differ from 1984? “We’ve made significant progress and are awaiting council approval before taking any next steps,” Jeff Millman, spokesman for LA24, the private nonprofit formed to plan the city’s bid, said Saturday."

Lane 2 - Deadspin posts "An Adult's Guide To Learning To Swim."

Lane 3 - The Detroit News posts "Olympic hopeful makes push for black swimmers. In fact, it wasn’t until the 2000 Sydney Games that Anthony Ervin became the first swimmer of African-American descent to make the U.S. Olympic team, where he won gold in the 50 freestyle and silver in the 400 freestyle relay. Four years later, Maritza Correia became the first African-American woman to make the squad, helping secure the silver medal in the 400 freestyle relay in Athens. By the time the 2012 London Games rolled around, though, only three of the 47 members of the U.S. swim team were African-American."

Lane 4 - The Sydney Morning Herald posts "Aussie Daniel Tranter makes cut for elite squad with Michael Phelps in America. Daniel Tranter, who won the 200-metre individual medley at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, left home in January to train under Phelps' coach Bob Bowman at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Bowman, who coached Phelps to 18 Olympic gold medals, relocated to Arizona while Tranter has been back in Australia waiting upon the US government to approve his professional athlete's visa."

Lane 5 - Channel NewsAsia posts (w/video) "'It shows that I’m doing well': Schooling on popularity in Singapore. The 20-year-old swimmer says that he is aiming for a medal at next year's Olympic Games."

Lane 6 - The Root posts "Olympic Gold-Medal Swimmer Who Almost Drowned as a Child Is Devoted to Teaching Kids How to Swim. The USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash initiative is well on its way to teaching 800,000 children to swim by the end of 2015 with the help of Olympian Cullen Jones."
