New York’s Governor Cuomo says gyms are one of the lowest known spreaders. New Jersey’s Governor Murphy says health club operators are overwhelmingly responsible and an extraordinarily good group of folks to work with. The Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Jill Hunsaker Ryan, MPH, said they’re comfortable keeping CO gyms open due to the safety measures clubs are putting in place. While we cannot completely eliminate the risk of COVID-19 in fitness centers—or anywhere in society—evidence suggests health clubs are not primary drivers of transmission, and that the exercise and social support they provide are vital to health and well-being.
