Rainy Days & Saturday Swims. Killing Bad Thoughts Softly.

Ugh!  Yeah!  Ugh!  Yeah!  Bi-polar swimming is in effect.  Last night I made the conscious thought that I'd swim this morning at 7am with the gang.  It's really the only time I really do any decent swimming.  It's my turn to not think and just workout.  During the week when I teach Spinning I am thinking Untitledabout everyone in the class making sure they are riding correct doing the right thing and motivating them.  So when I can swim with the gang and have Gary give us the workout it's my turn to think about me and no one else.  Which is good and bad.  During the main set I was feeling pretty good and had some decent times.  During the kick that was a whole other story.  Once my legs start to burn I'm reminded that I teach Spinning during the week and then think about work then think of a few negative thoughts about work and then my mind wanders more and I forgot what length I'm on.  Luckily kicking was only 300 yards.  Of course later on the damn radio on deck was playing The Carpenters "Rainy Days and Mondays" leading to bad thoughts in between sets.

Warm Up

450 Mixed swim.  (200 swim, 200 pull w/o paddles, 50 backstroke)

4x75's Kick.  (300/750)

Main Set:

300 (100 free / 100 back / 100 free)

2x200's on 2:40 (50 free / 100 back / 50 free)

3x100's on 1:50 (all back)

4x50's on 60 (meh... 25 free / 25 back)

1    4:02.6     300     1:21
2    2:37.9     200     1:19
1    2:36.9     200     1:18
2    1:18.1     100     1:18
3    1:16.7     100     1:17
4    1:15.8     100     1:16
5    :42.7     50     1:26
6    :46.0     50     1:32
7    :41.1     50     1:22
8    :41.1     50     1:22

The 300 I was feeling okay then the 200's a bit better.  I'm actually happy with my 100's.  Considering my lack of swimming those times aren't horrible.  I had lots of rest.  The 50's, well, I goofed off.  In the morning we split the lanes and the person I was splitting with started to do backstroke also but was all over the lane.  I did a 25 free then 25 back but I stopped at the 25 to give us some distance.  I used it as a cool down.  (1200/1950)

If I had swam the full warm up of 500 yards it would have benn 2,000 yards in 40 minutes but alas it was only 1,950 yards.  As for the water temp it was a bit better.  We had over an inch of rain yesterday afternoon but it wasn't enough to really cool the pool down.

I plan on swimming tomorrow.  Then this week might be a bit tough time wise but hopefully some swim on Wednesday and then next Sunday.  I have a training thing to get certified to teach a Core class so it's an all day of working out and learning. But my swim yardage goal is at least 10 miles to get back on track for the GTD.  One thing I know is that I'm way way below past years.  I looked up the listings or standings and someone who I use to swim with is at 131 miles so far and I'm at 67 miles.  Since we use to swim the same swim workouts I know I'm not even close to were I need to be to be in swim shape.

35 Minute Swim Workout

Quick swim before spin class this morning.  I'm filling in a morning class so I had to do a short workout with the swim gang this morning.  They continued on swimming while I had to leave.

Warm Up:
Mixed 500 is my guess.  I thought I was at 400 but my Garmin Swim said it was 250 which I know was wrong.  It was user error as it was dark outside and I couldn't see what I was doing.  Finished with a 100 fly. (500)
6x75's 4 Kick then 2 kick/drill/kick.  I did the last 2 backstroke. (450/950)

Main Set:
200 on 3:20 I had to do a 25 of fly, back and breast somewhere in the 200.
4x50's on 55 Fly/Free by 25.
200 on 3:20 I had to do a 25 of fly, back and breast somewhere in the 200.
So 600 more yards.  (600/1550)
If I had stayed
4x50's on 55 Fly/Free by 25.
100 something since I wasn't going to stay I didn't get to know how I would be swimming it.
2x50's
100
2x50's.
That could have been a great set if I could have stayed.  But 1,550 yards was all I had time for.

5    :38.1     50     1:16
6    2:53.7     200     1:27
The pool of course was super hot and I was slowly dying from the heat.

Another 30 Minutes In The Pool

I should have stayed in the pool and swam for 45 but alas I stopped at 30 minutes.  Easy Workout.  I didn't sleep well at all last night figure about 3 hours.  Taught my spinning classes at 5:45am an 7am.  Came home an napped and had a snack.  Then pool time.
Tues

3x100's IM on 1:50.  (300/1300)
For some reason my watch only got one of them and I did a slow 1:26.

And that was it.  I will be swimming tomorrow morning before work.  Gotta swim whenever I can get anything in.  Even 30 minutes here and there.

Two Swims, One Pool.

Ahh...the Holiday weekend!  Well it was the Holiday weekend here in the states.  More time for swimming normally but alas I used the extra time to sleep in.  I did get to the pool on Sunday and 2swimtoday but did itty bitty swim workouts.  Hot water and hot air made for uncomfortable swims.  After this mornings swim I actually felt a bit woozy.

Sunday Swim:

200 Free (200)

11x50's.  Hmm..I think I was pulling with paddles.
200 Kick (750/950)

Then I did 4x50's guessing by my Garmin Watch I did them backstroke.  (200/1150)

8x25's.  4 Fly 4 something.  The watch is claiming I did breaststroke but knowing me that so can't be right. (200/1350)

Called it a day.  Just relaxed after that.  As you can tell I'm not really seeming to swim much.  This was my first swim in a week.

Monday Swim:

200 Swim then 200 Pull.  I don't think I used paddles but may have.  Oy!  This was like 3 hours ago and my memory is like a goldfish.  I tried to use my heart rate monitor but it was annoying.  Once I had the strap on tight it just felt like a drag strap.  Maybe I was just being super sensitive.  Took it off after a 100 swim.  I have this theory or bad feeling that I'm going to be one of those actively fit guys who dies of a heart attack while shopping at Target.  (400)

10x100's Free Pulling w/ Paddles on 1:45
1    1:21.0     100     1:21
2    1:20.1     100     1:20
3    1:18.7     100     1:19
4    1:19.1     100     1:19
5    1:17.5     100     1:17
6    1:19.5     100     1:19
7    1:18.0     100     1:18

9    1:18.2     100     1:18
10    1:18.9     100     1:19

Wasn't trying to go fast just trying to stay on pace.  (1000/1400)

16x25's Kick.  4 of each stroke.  (400/1800)
